Benjamin Perry Jones, Jr. Ben or BP  born: January 10, 1921 - died: July 3, 2013  age: 92


HUBERT, NC - Benjamin Perry Jones Jr., beloved son of Benjamin Perry Jones Sr. and Maude Pace Jones went peacefully at home to be with his Lord on July 3rd. 2013 in the arms of his family. Graveside funeral services, with military honors, will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Dr. John Kerr officiating. Ben was born in Flat Rock North Carolina on January 10, 1921. He was a graduate of Flat Rock High School, class of 1938, where he was an active member of the band and student government. After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 to serve his county.
He was a master sergeant attached to the eighth army as a navigator on the B24 Liberator. His Bomber crew flew 36 missions over Europe where he was awarded the Air medal
with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and four Oak Leaf Clusters. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
Ben attended and graduated George Washington University in Washington DC with a degree in accounting. After graduation from the University, Ben worked as the Controller for
Gerber Foods near Asheville, North Carolina, for 30 years.
Ben was
a devoted Christian and member of the Flat Rock Independent Baptist church before he moved and began attending the First Presbyterian Church for the last 21 years. Ben was a lifelong competitive checker player as a lifetime member of both the American Checker Federation and the North Carolina Checker Association. He served for 15 years with the Swansboro Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Maude Jones, Mary Jones; and brothers and sisters, Nelson, Winfred and Edward Jones, Nellie Jones, Jane Lewis and Verneena Thomas.
Survivors include his devoted wife Joyce (Betsey) McCall Hussey-Jones; his sisters, Theresa Strider of Cary, NC, Leola Kyle of FL and Glenda Palmer of Beufort GA; brother-in-law, Bobby Lewis; his two daughters, Nancy Avery of Hendersonville, NC and Gail (Bobby) Brownridge of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Chelsea of NYC and Rodger Brownridge, Charlotte NC; step-daughter, Barrie (Al) Brough of Jacksonville, NC; step-grandchildren, Suzanne (Todd) Blum of Jacksonville, NC, Dr. David Brough (Kristy) of Memphis, TN and Kevin (Stephanie) of Philadelphia PA; and step-great grandchildren, Dustin, Bryce, Tyler, Victoria and Haden Blum of Jacksonville and Mathew Brough of Philadelphia, PA.
Ben was greatly loved by all of those he touched and will be truly missed.
